Double Standard

I have to admit to having a double standard. When police are killed in the line of duty I am saddened for them and their loved ones. When police kill others unnecessarily I am outraged as well as sad.

It makes sense to me to not be outraged over an officer killed because as much as it is not wanted it is a real risk of the job which was understood (hopefully) and accepted. Civilians on the other hand have not agreed to the risk of death in encountering the police and the only time they should be doing so is when their own actions clearly make them an immediate risk to the life of the police.

I'm not big on respect the uniform. I grew up on a military base and got to know too many soldiers good and bad for that. I respect the people who actually protect and serve.

There needs to be a revolution and I don't mean we all take up arms against the police I mean we need to revolutionize our thinking so that the fact that when cops are doing their jobs we aren't falling over ourselves with happiness. We need to expect it which is not the same as being unappreciative of it but actually show our appreciation and trust in the fact that we simply expect them to do their damnedest to serve well.

Not only does the public need to hold our cops to a higher standard but the other police officers do too. Accepting wrongdoing by another who is sworn to uphold the law makes you an accomplice to their actions.

I expect criminals to commit crimes I do not expect cops to behave as or be criminals. I don't think that makes me a bad person just someone with standards. To quote Chris Rock I don't want to be a "low expectation having mfer"
