Girlish style

I was reading a style blog yesterday and came to post about childlike style. I decided to brave the comments to see how people both perceive what childlike is and how they feel about it.

First there were the people who thought anything that wasn't straight sleek and sexy was childlike. Not much wiggle room there for personal tastes or quirkiness. Then there were the people who found anything vaguely girlish creepy because they felt it was sexualizing young girls. I thought that maybe the issue isn't so much sexualizing young girls as it was their own discomfort over finding some looks that don't scream "I'm a grown woman" sexy.  There was also the group who thought the adult child style was infantilizing women.  And of course there were those who had no idea what the hoopla was about. Some even said they hadn't realized their fashion choices were perceived as childlike until reading the article/comments. I did find it interesting that no one seemed to find women dressing like a little boys problematic or sexualizing. Made me think that despite many arguments to the contrary people in our society think of females as sexy and sexual regardless of age. Males don't get sex appeal until they are distinctly post pubescent.

It's no secret that I enjoy dressing in a manner that invokes girlishness. Instead of dressing to play up to my age I tend to play up the fact that I look fairly young and enjoy being kid-like. However some looks are too over the top for even me. I like the look of Lolitas in pictures but find it too fussy for daily life. I find that misses clothes in general give me the look of playing at being an adult so my style choices swing in the opposite direction. I've recent bought a few new dresses, they are all above the knee and higher waisted which although they are women's clothes give the impression of youthfulness. I also have an extensive collection of tights and frilly socks. My preferred footwear are mary janes. In part it's practical since I can't walk in higher heels and my feet tend to slide and pop out of pumps, the strap keeps my feet from doing that. The other part however is that I like the girlish look they have.

Something Das has found interesting being with me is how much he responds to the little girl aspect of my behavior/style. He said he's never before considered himself into the girlish woman fact he had a marked preference for overtly grown women. With me he's found himself being more protective, more patient and dominant in a paternal way. While i don't think that everyone who enjoys a youthful look also has a desire for a kinkified relationship featuring Daddy/littlegirl roles I do wonder how most men react to a woman who gives the impression of being childlike and how most women who adopt that style interact with men in their personal lives.
