Birthdays, Pictures, Stuff & Things

Yesterday was my birthday and we went to a cool resturant. I wanted to try something new food wise and I know Das likes spicy food so we went to a place that served a variety of West Indian food. The best shrimp ever!

I took a few pictures with my birthday camera. When it warms up I'll do more exploring in the area, I know there are hiking trails through the park but right now it's minus 7 C so i'll keep my buns inside staying warm with tea and hot chocolate.

 




It's been nice that things with Das have picked up a bit, he's been not forceful exactly but more solidly reminding me of him being the boss. I like that which i think makes me a little weird but it is what it is. 

I was reading a D/s romance novel earlier this week and noticed that the characters all really disliked slaves. The slaves were cast as incompetent and or lazy people who didn't know how to live in the adult world. I am not sure how that became the popular view of slaves vs submissives but it certainly is biased.  It's too bad too because I think there could be some cool storylines with slaves. I wonder if the idea of someone in control of another person's life is just too laden with baggage for western sensitivities.

Apperently the club isn't just an American thing.  I was just sitting chatting and minding my business when a flow of older black women walked by all saying hello and good to see you and see you later. The person I was speaking to asked me when I had met them and I laughed and told her that I had never seen any of them before. Das explained to her that this is a pretty common occurrence for me. He gets tickled whenever he witnesses it.  I guess some things aren't country specific.

Coffee

Last night we went to a coffee tasting. Now let it be known that I categorically do not like the taste of coffee but Das does so there you have it.  I drank tiny cup after tiny cup of heavily creamed/sugared coffee trying to discern roundness, smokey aftertones, citrus hints and whatnot. One cup tasted woodsie to me but that was about all I got and no one else knew what I was talking about so I'm going to have to say that my skills as a coffee taster are sorely lacking. It was a fun event though, lots of laughing and chatting about all types of stuff. In fact one might have suspected the coffee had been spiked with something alcoholic if one was simply observing the flushed cheeks and cheery demeanor of the participants. I got the opposite of buzzed though. Each cup brought me closer to falling over in my chair. By the time we left which really wasn't very late at all, I could barely be upright. Update Quickie

Christmas was good. We had a nice trip to the inlaws and we we got there the chocolate consumption was high. :) I'm rather amazed that I didn't gain more weight frankly because I always eat more there, I swear they put something in the food. We all exchanged presents and everyone seemed happy with what they got. I know I was. I got sparkly things and lotions, stuff I love. His mom is pretty perceptive because even though I always get girly things she never gives me nail polish which is good seeing as how I don't wear it. I am going to have a stellar collection of gloves though since I still have the ones from last year. Of course at this time of year there is no such thing as too many gloves. It snowed a few days, stayed sunny for Christmas and started sleeting the next morning. I'm glad we only made a day trip, driving home in that mess would have been horrible.
