Culture Shock
Today's adventure included walking through the park while it was covered by over a foot of snow. My ass and legs are crying, there are muscles being used that I thought were a myth. I console myself with the knowledge that already in the time we've been here my butt has gotten perkier and by spring I'm going to be so booty short ready, lol. The cool thing is that it actually wasn't as cold today as it has been so I had a better time.
After getting the pups settled back in the room we went and got Das a work coat, next week we'll get me one too since they are crazy warm. Then we stopped for lunch at a Jamaican place. i had saltfish and ackee on a bed of veggies with sweet dumplings on the side. So yummy, the food here is beyond good.
It was occurring to me today amidst all this yumminess that I've been embraced with massive enthusiasm by so many people. I purchased a phone yesterday and the salesman was an absolute darling. Today the lady making the food was also helpful above and beyond the bounds of what is normal for doing good business. My interactions with people here have been so overwhelmingly positive that it's almost surreal. Das says that other Canadians say that Toronto is cold and distant which makes me wonder just how far do you have to go to be considered warm here? People usually talk about culture shock as an adjustment to negative things but the biggest culture shock I've had is the massive kindness I've encountered from so many different people.
