Youthful Adventures
Friday I went to withdraw the kidlet from school, we were sitting at a table in the common area after the receptionist had called for the counselor chatting with one of his friends. The counselor appeared after a few minutes, looked over at us and proceeded to ask the receptionist if the parent had arrived. At that point I felt the need to speak up, she looked taken aback but recovered well and we got things done.
At the airport later in the weekend first I ran into a kerfuffle with the ticket agent who had a difficult time comprehending that I was not the unaccompanied minor in need of a ticket. When he finally thought to look at my driver's license that bit of confusion was cleared up, the proper tickets were printed and we sprinted off to security with less than an hour before the plane was scheduled for take off. Once we got to the blessedly short line at security I allowed the kidlet to go in front of me. He went through the ID check with no issues and I made it through with minimum fuss seeing as how my non-boarding pass always seems to confuse the agents. Explaining that I'm simply accompanying him to the gate as he is an unaccompanied minor clears it up quickly though.
Once past the ID checkpoint the very sweet security officer directed us to the proper lines and let us know what we needed to do such as removing jewelry, shoes, laptops, belts... well he told the kidlet to take off his shoes and place them in a bin meanwhile he looked at me and said you can leave your shoes on sweetie. Umm I saw the signs earlier while in line that specifically said "children 12 and under can leave their shoes on." Seriously, now I look 12 or under? Seeing as how there was no point in arguing I just kept my shoes on and went through and oddly enough not one person so much as blinked about it down the line. The rest of our adventure went by without a hitch. I'll miss the little rascal but I must say not being mistaken for my son's younger sister at every turn will be nice. :)
