We went to a friend's b-day party this afternoon and being that the birthday girl was the only person we knew we engaged strangers in various conversations. One of those happened to be about hair, locs in particular. A young woman told me that in her teen years she helped someone with soft curly hair install his locs and he did it with heavy wax of some sort, which required the use of a blow dryer to melt it in, ashes to dry out the hair, and several other things I can't recall at the moment because this was hours ago and I think I was so horrified and yet intrigued about the ashes that I couldn't properly focus on the rest. I do recall her saying it took about 6 hours and the initial installation was some kind of kit her friend her gotten on the internet. I have read a lot about starting and maintaining locs over the years but ashes was a new one for me. I guess you really do learn something new every day.
Watching make up tutorials is like watching magic. It never ceases to amaze me how much different someone's face can look with well applied cosmetics. I'm entirely to lazy to actually do most of it especially on any kind of regular basis but I would like to learn how to do some of it for picture taking purposes. On a day to day basis though I like looking like myself. Although there is is undeniable weakness for lipstick, if only the non transferable ones weren't all dry and the juicy/shiny ones stayed put. I think the search for the perfect lip color goes back to prehistory, as long as there has been a way to stain lips we've been seeking to improve upon it. Tampering with our presentation is just so fundamentally human.
Christmas was good. We had a nice trip to the inlaws and we we got there the chocolate consumption was high. :) I'm rather amazed that I didn't gain more weight frankly because I always eat more there, I swear they put something in the food. We all exchanged presents and everyone seemed happy with what they got. I know I was. I got sparkly things and lotions, stuff I love. His mom is pretty perceptive because even though I always get girly things she never gives me nail polish which is good seeing as how I don't wear it. I am going to have a stellar collection of gloves though since I still have the ones from last year. Of course at this time of year there is no such thing as too many gloves. It snowed a few days, stayed sunny for Christmas and started sleeting the next morning. I'm glad we only made a day trip, driving home in that mess would have been horrible. Hopefully things will settle down soon as Das was caught in the layoff at the beginning of the month a...
