Drama
Drama has gotta a bad rap. All the time people say "I don't do drama" as if on it's own drama is a terrible thing but drama by definition isn't negative at all. drama: an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or circumstances. What's so bad about that?
I wonder if people really don't like excitement or emotions? There does seem to be a lot of general discomfort with honest displays of emotions so that may be a part of it. I think a part of it too is that we are utilizing a fairly limited vocabulary to try and express a wide range of things. The person who has normal ups and downs of life and handles them in a reasonable manner if not always a perfect one, most of us can deal with. On the other hand the person who seems to always be in crisis especially those of their own making and has terrible coping skills who exhausts us even when we spend minimal time in their presence or the person who is always snarky about everyone and generally unpleasant to be around, well those are people we would likely say "have drama" and seek to avoid.
I kinda want to reclaim the word drama, I like it, it's a good word. The people I described above don't have drama, they have issues or maybe they are just flat out assholes, lol. Drama on the other hand is the ebb and flow of life. When we sit here looking at Canadian houses and Das finally tells me the actual selling price and I make cute pouty faces b/c wow, I want a huge house for a great price. Or when I put on my puppy dog look because he had a chocolate factory in the town he grew up in and I didn't and he laughs and me, that to me is drama or at least me being dramatic (ok maybe melodramatic) but what I'm getting at is drama can be fun. I like excitement and surprises, most of the time. New jobs, moves across town, or to a new state, or new country bring it on! Life holds the unexpected around every corner, it would be pretty dull if it didn't. Bring on the drama but leave the sour puss people over there. ;)
