ACL weekend mishaps and meanderings
We had a fun filled busy weekend that I am now recovering from by firmly planting myself on the couch listening to music lounging against pillows. A slave's life is hard I tell you. :) On friday morning we took the bike for my first long ride about an hr out of town to visit a friend for a few hours. Das' bike is not a cruiser so an hour or so is about all that is comfortable on my poor butt. It wasn't too warm yet so the ride was lovely. It did start to drizzle as soon as we left home but luckily it stopped before we'd gone a mile and it was clear the rest of the way. Our visit was delightful, I love our friends. The ride home was considerably warmer but still good though tiring so we rested a few hours before heading to the music festival to catch a couple of shows.
We were going to take the bike because motorcycle parking was right by the venue but Das was too tired and frankly so was I. The parking lot we parked at ended up being about 2.5 miles from the venue and the shuttle they advertised on the website ended up not being available. We took a pedicab to the festival grounds, those guys must be in great shape. The first show we watched was nice, sunlight but not the glaring brightness of midday. Music was enjoyable although I couldn't tell you who they were, lol. I personally was looking forward to the second band, Depeche Mode! While waiting for them the sun went down and we got a good spot close to the front but then clouds came in and that 30% chance of rain upped to 100% and we got good and drenched. The good news was that the storm was over before the show started so it didn't interfere, the bad news was I was completely soaked and so was the ground so I had to stand up for 3 hours. It was an awesome show though even if I did start to have a panic attack 2/3 of the way through it. Das decided we could move away from the crowd at that point and we listened to a couple more songs from the fringes then started the long ass walk back to the car. By the time we got there I collapsed into the seat, updated my FB on the drive home and the minute we walked in the house I beelined to the bedroom, stripped, performed my bathroom rituals and buried myself under the covers.
Saturday we lounged in the morning and headed out back to the festival mid afternoon this time on the bike. Neither of us were up to that walk again so soon. We have confirmed that I am not at one with nature, lol. Yesterday consisted of me trying not to faint from too much sun before we found the first concert we liked. Enjoyed that and chilled in that space for a good while as it was the only place the sun was glaring. After a while we took the risk of exploring the grounds a bit, decided to forgo the dubious pleasure of eating festival food and stuck to water and soda. I drank enough to stay hydrated but not enough to have to pee, I have a "thing" about public restrooms and portapotties are not on my list of ok places. We had a couple hours to kill before The Cure concert which was the final and big one of the night so we meandered off the main area so Das could smoke. For a smoke free event there was an amazing amount of pot being smoked all around me no matter where I was and the bag checks were obviously useless since at least half the people there were obviously stoned/high. When The Cure finally came on we had fun listening to them, they don't really do a whole lot on stage so it wasn't imperative to watch so much. At one point we were both laying on our backs looking at the clouds and moon after sunset. I was pretending I was on acid b/c I'm silly like that. We left right before they finished the last song and as we got on the bike it started to rain. To my dismay I discovered that rain stings like shit when one is going 60 mph. Puddles aren't much fun either, just fyi. We made it home safe and sound and pretty much there was a repeat of Friday night.
Today I letting my hair dry, posted the rest of my pics on FB and just hanging out. I loved having that experience and I am pretty sure Das did too but I'm also pretty sure he has no intentions of ever taking my wimpy ass to another outdoor festival.
