So we are settling in

So we are in the apartment for the better part of a week now and I love it. I have been slowly aquainting myself with the immediate neighborhood I even walked all the way up to our new church about three city blocks.

It feels weird to walk around like I own the sidewalk. I don't have the same big eyed confused feeling that I had in San Francisco and that I expected to have here. Maybe it is because I am older and more confident in general. I also feel very safe. I am not quite naive enough to think there is never any crime here but it isn't as fearful of a general atmosphere which doesn't transmit a fear fulness to me. I like it.

Today I am waiting for a furniture delivery. I'm stuck in the house because they didn't give us an estimate on time not even the customary four hour window so I have amused myself by trying to teach the dog to fetch and taking pictures of myself. It is more difficult since I left my tripod. The car could only fit so much stuff after all and I wasn't sure with it being aluminum that it could withstand the dogs or the stuff that would ineveritably be piled on it.

I'm messing around with camera 360 for the editing features. they are pretty decent. Much easier to get the hang of than photo shop too.

Apperently the club isn't just an American thing.  I was just sitting chatting and minding my business when a flow of older black women walked by all saying hello and good to see you and see you later. The person I was speaking to asked me when I had met them and I laughed and told her that I had never seen any of them before. Das explained to her that this is a pretty common occurrence for me. He gets tickled whenever he witnesses it.  I guess some things aren't country specific.

Coffee

Last night we went to a coffee tasting. Now let it be known that I categorically do not like the taste of coffee but Das does so there you have it.  I drank tiny cup after tiny cup of heavily creamed/sugared coffee trying to discern roundness, smokey aftertones, citrus hints and whatnot. One cup tasted woodsie to me but that was about all I got and no one else knew what I was talking about so I'm going to have to say that my skills as a coffee taster are sorely lacking. It was a fun event though, lots of laughing and chatting about all types of stuff. In fact one might have suspected the coffee had been spiked with something alcoholic if one was simply observing the flushed cheeks and cheery demeanor of the participants. I got the opposite of buzzed though. Each cup brought me closer to falling over in my chair. By the time we left which really wasn't very late at all, I could barely be upright. Update Quickie

Christmas was good. We had a nice trip to the inlaws and we we got there the chocolate consumption was high. :) I'm rather amazed that I didn't gain more weight frankly because I always eat more there, I swear they put something in the food. We all exchanged presents and everyone seemed happy with what they got. I know I was. I got sparkly things and lotions, stuff I love. His mom is pretty perceptive because even though I always get girly things she never gives me nail polish which is good seeing as how I don't wear it. I am going to have a stellar collection of gloves though since I still have the ones from last year. Of course at this time of year there is no such thing as too many gloves. It snowed a few days, stayed sunny for Christmas and started sleeting the next morning. I'm glad we only made a day trip, driving home in that mess would have been horrible.
